The Church on a Mission Day 5

Day 5: Sent for Impact

The church in Antioch set a powerful precedent as the first congregation to intentionally send missionaries. Their effectiveness stemmed from three key priorities: being grounded in God's Word, maintaining God-centered worship, and demonstrating dependence through prayer and fasting. These foundations enabled them to understand God's character, align with His purposes, and trust His direction. Their willingness to send their best leaders sparked a movement that transformed the ancient world and continues to influence global missions today.

Devotional

God is fundamentally a sending God. From sending His Son to save us, to sending His Spirit to empower us, to sending His church to reach others, God's nature is to send. The Antioch church understood this and became a launching pad for mission work that transformed the ancient world. Today, God continues to send His people to make an impact. Whether across the street or across the ocean, we're all called to participate in His mission. When we embrace our identity as sent ones, we join in God's work of seeking and saving the lost.

"Jesus said to them again, 'Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.'"
- John 20:21

Reflection Question

Where is God sending you, and how are you responding to His call?

God is a sending God who desires to send us too.
— Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer

Father, help me to see myself as sent by You. Give me courage to go wherever You lead, and use my life to make an eternal impact. Amen.
