The Church on a Mission Day 4

Day 4: The Cost of Mission
The church in Antioch set a powerful precedent as the first congregation to intentionally send missionaries. Their effectiveness stemmed from three key priorities: being grounded in God's Word, maintaining God-centered worship, and demonstrating dependence through prayer and fasting. These foundations enabled them to understand God's character, align with His purposes, and trust His direction. Their willingness to send their best leaders sparked a movement that transformed the ancient world and continues to influence global missions today.

Devotional

Following God's mission often requires sacrifice. The church in Antioch demonstrated this when they sent their best leaders, Barnabas and Saul, to spread the Gospel. This wasn't a comfortable decision, but it was a faithful one. Today, God still calls us to make sacrifices for His kingdom - whether it's our time, comfort, resources, or relationships. These sacrifices, while challenging, are investments in eternal impact. When we give our best for God's mission, we participate in His work of transforming lives and communities.

"And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me..’" - Luke 9:23 ESV

Reflection Question

What is God asking you to sacrifice for His mission, and what's holding you back?

The mission of God always on some level involves sacrifice.
— Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer

Lord, give me courage to sacrifice whatever You ask of me. Help me to trust that Your plans are better than my comfort. Amen.
